According to a preliminary agreement, TSMC will build a third plant in Phoenix , adding it to two already in the state that are expected to begin production in 2025 and 2028. In total, the support package will support TSMC's investment of more than $65 billion across its three plants. TSMC is a key chip supplier to companies such as Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp.

TSMC's third plant will use advanced manufacturing technology and is scheduled to be operational before the end of the decade. US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said the 2-nanometer chips that will be produced at the plant are critical for new technologies, including artificial intelligence and military needs.

“For the first time in history, we will produce the most advanced semiconductor chips on a large scale here in the United States of America, by the way, with American workers. TSMC plans to manufacture 2nm chips in Taiwan for the first time in 2025,” Raimondo said.
