The House of Representatives has again passed a bill that could ban TikTok in the United States if Chinese parent company ByteDance does not sell the social network. This is reported by The Verge.

The ban is part of legislative initiatives related to foreign assistance from the United States, in particular, Ukraine.

This document includes national security priorities – this is about sanctions against Iran, the seizure of frozen Russian assets and measures that could lead to a ban on TikTok in the US.

Given the urgency of foreign aid, the issue of TikTok's future could be considered in the Senate faster than if it were a separate issue social network bill.

A preliminary bill passed last month to ban TikTok is still delayed in the Senate.

The new draft extends the deadline for ByteDance to refuse from TikTok. It was previously said that the Chinese company will have about 6 months after the document comes into force to sell the platform. Now this period has been extended to 1 year.

Recall

The Treasury Department wrote that during an interview on CNBC Squawk Box, former US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced the formation of an investment team to purchase TikTok within six months.
