The Japanese yen again updated its low against the dollar

The Japanese yen touched 160 against the dollar on Monday, its highest level since 1990. The Associated Press writes about this.

After this, the value of the dollar quickly returned to 156 yen. Trading may also have been choppy due to a holiday in Japan, which kept its stock market closed. But the speed and extent of the yen's fluctuations have prompted speculation that Japanese officials are taking steps to support the value of their currency.

It was under pressure for a long time, as the Bank of Japan kept interest rates extremely low to stimulate inflation in the country's economy. Just last month it ended its policy of keeping the benchmark interest rate below zero.
