The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) introduced into circulation a new banknote of 10,000 Argentine pesos (about $11), the largest by denomination in the American country. This was reported by the regulator's press service.

The new banknote began to be distributed in the national network of bank branches, as well as ATMs.
The obverse of the banknote depicts General Manuel Belgrano and Maria Remedios del Valle, who are considered heroes of the War of Independence of Argentina from Spain, and the reverse features an artistic reproduction scenes of taking the oath of allegiance to the flag on February 27, 1812.
The Central Bank of Argentina explained that the introduction of a new banknote will facilitate transactions between users and make the logistics of the financial system more efficient.
In the last quarter of the year, another new banknote with a face value of 20,000 pesos (about $23) will go into circulation.
Security
The new banknote with a face value of 10,000 pesos has several levels of security implemented with the help of special printing systems:
- Watermark: in the empty sector, looking at the bill against the light, you can see portraits of Maria Remedios del Valle and Manuel Belgrano, as well as the initials of their names. Security thread: The red security thread is inserted into the bill and opens in three “windows”. The thread creates a dynamic effect as the bill moves. When the note is held against the light, a solid stripe is visible and the acronym BCRA can be seen. Optical Variability Ink: It changes color from gold to green when the note is tilted, creating a dynamic 3D effect.

In addition, the banknote has recognition for the visually impaired: on the vertical edges you can feel the relief of lines of parallel stripes.< /p>

The issue of banknotes in large denominations is associated with an unprecedented increase in inflation in the country. In December 2023, the annual inflation rate in Argentina was 211.4%.
Against this background, consumers had problems with payment, because the largest denomination at face value is only 2,000 pesos.
Earlier, Argentine President Javier Miley, in one of his interviews with local media, allowed the release of banknotes with an even larger denomination – up to 50,000 pesos.
