Essar Energy Transition, operator of the Stanlow oil refinery in north-west England, plans to build Europe's first hydrogen power station there. Bloomberg reports this.

Construction of the thermal power plant is planned to be completed in 2027. It is one of a number of initiatives Stanlow is working on to cut its emissions by 95% by 2030, the company said in a statement. A final investment decision is expected no later than this year.
Stanlow is at the center of a regional decarbonization cluster known as Hynet, which aims to supply cleaner hydrogen to both refineries and industry in the region.
The plans center on a separate hydrogen production plant that will use carbon capture technology and produce so-called “blue hydrogen”.
The hydrogen production plant is planned to be operational by 2028 or 2029, the manager said company partner Tony Fountain. It will supply hydrogen to both the thermal power plant and the oil refinery. In the first quarter of next year, a hydrogen production furnace connected to the oil refining plant will be connected.
