The global smartphone market grew by 6.5%: which companies are in the lead?

In the second quarter of 2024, smartphone shipments worldwide increased by 6.5% or to 285.4 million units. The most popular are Samsung and Apple. This is reported by the International Data Corporation (IDC).

Supply growth is recorded for the fourth quarter in a row amid the hype around AI, and manufacturing companies are taking advantage of this. Smartphones with Gen AI will capture 19% of the market with 234 million shipments this year, and all 5 leading companies are showing year-over-year growth against the backdrop of competition, says IDC report.

Which companies are in the lead

< p>Preliminary market results show Samsung leading with 18.9% share thanks to its strategic focus on its flagships and strong AI strategy.

Apple ended the quarter in second place with 15.8% share with improved performance in China and other key regions.

Both leading companies showed modest growth compared to last year.

Xiaomi took third place with a share of 14.8%.
