Most Germans experience deterioration in living conditions after Merkel's departure – survey

Most Germans believe living conditions in their country have worsened since former Chancellor Angela Merkel left office in 2021 after 16 years in power. As European Pravda writes, this is evidenced by a survey conducted by the YouGov public opinion research institute.

What the Germans are saying

According to the survey, 61% believe that living conditions in Germany have worsened after leaving Merkel from politics in December 2021, while 25% believe that they have remained about the same as before.

Respondents who see the situation worsening mostly attribute this, at least partially , with the work of the German coalition government led by Olaf Scholz.

In particular, 28% of respondents point to Scholz’s “bad government”, while 15% attribute the worsening situation to external factors. For more than half of respondents, both factors play a role.

As YouGov points out, the survey lasted from June 28 to July 3 online and covered 2,030 people. The sample reflects parameters such as age, gender, religion, voting behavior, education and political interests.
