EU car sales rose 4.3% in June

In the European Union in June, car sales increased by 4.3% year-on-year, to 1.09 million, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reported.

The car market comes to life

In Germany sales increased by 6.1% and amounted to 280,139 cars, in Italy – by 15.1%, to 159,982 units, in Spain – by 2.2%, to 103,357. In France, the figure decreased by 4.8% – to 181,709 cars.

The number of new cars sold in Europe as a whole (EU countries plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and the UK) last month increased by 3.6% and reached 1.311 million. In the UK, sales increased by 1.1% – to 179,263 cars.

Sales of electric vehicles in the EU decreased by 1%, amounting to 156,408. The share of electric vehicles in total sales in the EU market dropped to 14.4% from 15.1 % a year earlier.

Sales of the Volkswagen group (including Skoda, Audi, Seat, Porsche, etc.) increased in the European Union in June by 4.7%, Stellantis (united Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group) – by 0. 4%, Renault – by 6.2%.

The German luxury car manufacturer BMW decreased sales by 4.6%, its competitor Mercedes-Benz – by 2.7%.

Japanese Toyota Group increased sales by 13.7%, South Korean Hyundai Group decreased by 6.9%.

American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla sold 33.68 thousand cars in the European Union last month, which 6.1% less than the figure for June last year.

In the first half of the year, car sales in the EU increased by 4.5%, amounting to 5.684 million. Sales of electric vehicles increased by 1.3%, to 712,637 units .
