Finland donates 2 million euros to support Ukrainian pensioners

The Finnish government has allocated 2 million euros to the UN World Food Programme (WFP). The funds are being used to provide financial assistance to pensioners living in areas of active or potential military action. This was reported by the WFP press service.

The WFP additional cash assistance program, launched in August 2023, is aimed at supporting pensioners with low pensions living in areas of active or potential military action (according to a list determined by the state).

Since August In 2023, more than 360,000 pensioners received payments under this program. Thanks to contributions from Finland and other donors, WFP will continue this program until the end of 2024.

Since February 2022, Finland has allocated a total of €11 million to support WFP's humanitarian operations in Ukraine. Of these funds, €1 million was used to support the joint WFP-FAO mine clearance program in agricultural lands.

The remaining €8 million was used to provide food assistance to communities near the front lines and cash assistance to the most vulnerable people throughout the country.
