The cost of electricity imports for Ukraine is estimated at $1 billion per year – National Bank

Importing electricity from the EU will help partially reduce the deficit in our own capacity. However, the price of energy is higher than the domestic one, and the annual cost of such imports will amount to about $1 billion. This is stated in the inflation report of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The report notes that further destruction and an increase in the deficit are a significant negative risk to the forecast.

If this risk is realized, the GDP growth rate will be less than in the baseline scenario, while price growth is higher due to increased costs due to the use of more expensive energy sources.

“At the same time, the restoration of part of the energy generation and the introduction of new capacities, in particular the expansion of the renewable energy sector and/or the installation of mobile gas units, will most likely reduce the electricity deficit and are a positive risk to the forecast,” the NBU noted.
