Transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system on August 8 decreased to 37.25 million cubic meters, as evidenced by the confirmed nominations of the “Operator of the Ukrainian GTS” at the entry point “Sudzha”, ExPro reports.

Compared to the previous day, transit volumes decreased by 6%. This is the lowest transit value since May 1, 2023. Traditionally, the volume of Russian gas transit through Ukraine amounted to about 42-42.4 million cubic meters per day.
The reasons for the reduction in transit are still unknown. Let us recall that the day before, the “Operator of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine” reported that the transit of Russian gas is proceeding as normal.

On Wednesday, August 7, information appeared in Telegram channels that the Armed Forces of Ukraine took control of the Sudzha gas metering station in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. Later, unconfirmed information appeared that the Ukrainian Armed Forces control the settlement of Sudzha.
The Sudzha GIS is a key facility for the supply of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine. Sudzha is the only point through which Russian gas enters Ukraine for transportation to European customers.
Against the backdrop of the military operation in the Kursk region, natural gas prices in Europe rose sharply on Wednesday, August 7 — to €38.75/MWh (+5.7%), the highest value since December 2023.
