When will they appear in circulation
The National Bank, as part of the planned issue, will gradually introduce modified banknotes into circulation:
- from August 8, 2024 – in denominations of 500 and 1000 hryvnia; from August 23, 2024 – in denominations of 50 hryvnia; in the following years – in denominations of 20, 100 and 200 hryvnia.
The regulator will support banks and SIT companies with modified banknotes from the date of their introduction into circulation for their subsequent issuance to clients.
“Modified banknotes as legal tender will circulate together with other banknotes of the corresponding denominations of previous years of issue and are mandatory for acceptance at their face value by all individuals and legal entities without any restrictions throughout the territory of Ukraine for all types of payments and crediting to accounts,” the NBU said in a statement.
At the same time, citizens do not need to specially exchange old-style banknotes.
Modified banknotes will be issued as part of a planned issue to replace worn and damaged banknotes to ensure cash circulation with the necessary volumes of cash of the corresponding denominations and to improve the quality of cash.
It is noted that the modified hryvnia banknotes will gradually replace the banknotes of the 2014-2019 samples in circulation, which show signs of wear.
Design
In the upper right part on the back of the modified banknotes there is a patriotic slogan: “GLORY TO UKRAINE! GLORY TO THE HEROES!
Accordingly, all other design elements and security features of the modified banknotes correspond to the banknotes of 500 hryvnia of the 2015 model, 1,000 hryvnia of the 2019 model, and 50 hryvnia of the 2019 model, the images and descriptions of which are posted on the pages of the official Internet representative office of the National Bank of Ukraine.
In addition, the signature of the Head of the NBU of Ukraine Andriy Pyshnyi is placed on the front side of the modified banknotes, and the year of issue is on the back.
