What is known

Until July 2024, PeeringDB had data on Google's connection to DataLine-IX and DataLine OST (RTK-TsOD – part of Rostelecom), inet2 and W-IX (Er-Telecom), MegaFon-IX and other data centers. However, in October, this information disappeared from the database.

PeeringDB said that only Google employees could have removed this information.

According to MegaFon, Google's disconnection from the MegaFon-IX point occurred at the initiative of the American corporation. According to a source in the market, the decision to disconnect Er-Telecom from W-IX was also made by Google.

Details

As reported by one of the companies, Google currently has a physical connection to DATAIX in Russia, but has stopped announcing and accepting routes through route servers. At the same time, Google continues to interact with individual platform participants through direct private peering sessions.

The key reason for the shutdown of Google traffic could be the actual impossibility of technical maintenance of Russian servers, as well as payment for the work of this infrastructure and sanctions.

Due to these measures by Google in Russia, the quality and speed of connection to the company's services may deteriorate. A representative of PeeringDB explained that traffic will now go through a transit network, which will increase delays in data transmission and the number of transitions – communication nodes through which traffic passes, as well as the costs of operators for its transit.
