“Big Mac Index”: how much should a dollar cost in Ukraine?

Economist reported this information, reports URA-Inform.  

Today, the Ukrainian hryvnia is undervalued by 34.8%. In particular, the popular burger «Big Mac» in the fast food chain «McDonald's» costs 110 hryvnia.

At the time of calculation, «Big Mac» in the United States of America it cost $5.69. Consequently, the exchange rate according to the so-called «Big Mac Index» in Ukraine should be at the level of 19.33 hryvnia per US dollar.

«The estimated exchange rate is 19.33. The difference between this and the actual exchange rate (37.44) indicates that the Ukrainian hryvnia is undervalued against the dollar by 48.4%. Burger «Big Mac» costs 48.4% cheaper in Ukraine ($2.94) than in the USA ($5.69) at the market rate. Based on the difference in GDP per person, «Big Mac» should cost 20.8% less. This means that the hryvnia is undervalued by 34.8%», — the message says.
