Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene accused her fellow party member Mike Johnson of treason.

For this reason, she initiated the resignation of the Speaker of the US Congress. Greene filed a motion to remove Speaker Johnson — this is the same procedural step that led to the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in October 2022.
«Today I filed a petition about being fired after Speaker Johnson betrayed our conference and violated our rules», — Green told reporters.
According to the publication, it is not yet clear whether the Republican will attract the necessary support to remove the speaker. That's because a number of Democrats who unanimously voted to remove McCarthy say they will support Johnson if he continues to reach bipartisan agreements with Biden on issues such as government funding and aid to Ukraine.
Johnson refused to consider the Ukraine aid package passed by the Senate, but promised to work on a version of the legislation in the House of Representatives when Congress returns to Washington after recess in mid-April.
« ;I don't want to hurt our party. But this is a warning. It's time for us to go through the process, slowly, to find a new Speaker of the House who will support the Republicans in our Republican majority and not play for the Democrats», — explained Taylor Greene.
