The Netherlands proposed holding a special tribunal in The Hague.

This information was reported by DW, reports “URA- Inform”.

European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said that it is highly likely that a special tribunal will be created before the end of 2024 for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the ruling elite of the aggressor state.

According to him, two possible options regarding the tribunal are currently being considered. The first option — it is an international tribunal based on a multilateral agreement. Second option — This is a simplified solution, which is based on a bilateral agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe.

«In addition, a new system for the transfer of legal proceedings was created in the European Union. So, if a criminal trial is ongoing in Ukraine, in particular regarding the crime of aggression, then it can be transferred to such a special tribunal», — Reynders noted.

DW adds that the Netherlands offered to host a special tribunal, and participants in the conference «Restoring Justice for Ukraine», which was held in The Hague on Tuesday, April 2 , also supported this.

This would be logical, since The Hague with its courts is called the capital of world justice, and the most important thing is that the International Center for the Investigation of Crimes of Aggression against Ukraine operates there, which borders on Eurojust and the International Criminal court, which investigates other crimes committed by the aggressor state.

The publication notes that following the results of the conference «Restoring Justice for Ukraine», which took place in The Hague, representatives of 44 states supported the idea of creating special tribunal for Russia for the crimes that the aggressor state committed against Ukraine.

We recall that it was previously reported that the Russian Federation is strengthening its statements on the negotiations: ISW named the aggressor’s goal.
