Heart attack: what symptoms on the hands will tell you about the risk of a dangerous condition

Twitter LinkedIn

A heart attack occurs due to a complete or partial blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle.

This information was reported by Storinka, URA-Inform reports.

The most common cause of this dangerous condition is coronary heart disease. The disease is associated with narrowing of the arteries due to the accumulation of fatty deposits — a process known as atherosclerosis.

During a heart attack, muscle cells inside the organ «begin to die». Within 30 minutes after oxygen starvation of the heart muscle, irreversible damage can occur.

To avoid a bad outcome, you need to listen more to your body and undergo preventive examinations. Your hands can tell you about your risk of coronary heart disease.

Three warning signs on your hands:

— A yellow-orange, bumpy rash on the fingers may indicate extremely high triglyceride levels, which can cause rashes around the joints. Elevated levels of these fats increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease;

— dark spots under the nails. Small spots of blood stuck under the nail may indicate an infection of the heart's lining or valves, called endocarditis. This condition occurs when bacteria or fungi enter the bloodstream and attach to already damaged areas of the heart. Also, with endocarditis, bloody spots may appear under the skin on the inside of the arms;

— blue or gray fingers. This color change may be the result of poor blood circulation associated with narrowing of blood vessels.
