NATO confidentially and without official statements established «red lines» for possible intervention in the war in Ukraine. According to the publication, at least two such lines have been planned.
This information was reported by Repubblica, URA-Inform reports.
The first of them is related to the direct or indirect intervention of a third party in the conflict. The West fears a possible breakthrough by Russian armed forces in the north-west, which could create a corridor between Ukraine and Belarus and lead to the direct involvement of Minsk in hostilities. Such a development will make the Belarusian army and arsenal strategically important for Moscow, which could strengthen NATO support in favor of Ukraine.
The second «red line» associated with a possible provocation of the Russian Federation against the Baltic countries, Poland or an attack on Moldova. This could manifest itself not only in the form of an invasion, but also in the form of military provocations to test the West's reaction.
La Repubblica notes that the West is deeply concerned about the situation in Kyiv and the unfavorable conditions surrounding it. However, at the moment, NATO has no specific operational plans to send troops to Ukraine, but only “assessing possible contingency plans.”
We recall that it was previously reported that the West’s patience is beginning to run out: what could threaten Ukraine by the fall.
