Ukraine intends to host the second meeting of the Global Peace Summit before the end of 2024 and plans to invite the Russian Federation to it.
This information was reported by ISW, URA-Inform reports.
Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War noted that the Kremlin is not interested in holding peaceful meetings, as the Russian leadership has repeatedly noted.
Ukrainian Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva said on June 21 that Ukraine wants to hold a second meeting of the summit before the end of 2024, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on July 4 that “Russian representatives must be present” at any future summit that discusses a legitimate plan to end the war.
The Kremlin has made it clear that Russian representatives would not have attended the first meeting of the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland in June even if they had been invited. Russian President Vladimir Putin has made it clear that he opposes any agreement short of Ukraine's capitulation, even as other Kremlin officials continue to express interest in meaningful talks.
It is worth noting that the first meeting of the Global Peace Summit, initiated by Ukraine, was aimed at creating a global consensus on negotiations on the war in Ukraine. So that Ukraine and its international partners can present a common peace plan to the Russian representative at the next peace summit, and Ukraine has never made it clear that it intends to completely exclude Russia from its peace process.
Recall that it was previously reported when peace talks on Ukraine will finally take place: Orban has indicated an approximate date.
