In Ukraine, the harvest of melons began in mid-June.

And the first batches of watermelons arrived in stores and markets from Nikolaev, Odessa, Vinnytsia and Transcarpathian regions. The number of watermelons from the right bank of Kherson, where the fields have already been cleared, has also increased, but they do not make a difference in the markets due to small volumes.
It is noted that at the beginning of summer, the market for melons in Ukraine was unexpectedly formed by imported watermelons delivered from Greece, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Spain.
« Now they are being replaced by local watermelons, so prices are falling», — said Ivan Palchevsky, head of the press service of Fozzy Group.
It is alleged that Ukrainian farmers are now fighting with wholesalers, because the latter are trying to push purchase prices down, but at the same time they are not allowing retail prices to be lowered below 23 UAH per kg.

At the same time, imported watermelons are much more expensive than Ukrainian ones. This week, stores sold watermelons from Italy for 50 hryvnia per kilogram. At the same time, in Kyiv, Ukrainian watermelons cost half as much – 23 – 25 UAH per kilogram.
