Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War noted that Russia’s war against Ukraine is now of a positional nature.
This information was reported by ISW, reports URA-Inform.
In their report, they suggested that Ukraine will likely carry out small counter-offensives this year and early next year in order to deplete Russian forces and achieve significant operational results in the future.
In their opinion, neither the Ukrainian Armed Forces nor the Russian Army now have sufficient forces for significant offensive operations and the seizure of territories. Therefore, Ukrainian defenders will resort to small counter-offensive operations, which together can lead to a turning point at the front. This tactic will continue for at least six months.
«Emerging from the current trench warfare in Ukraine is challenging for both Russian and Ukrainian forces, and smaller-scale Ukrainian counteroffensive operations provide opportunities to achieve operationally significant objectives without the challenges associated with larger-scale counteroffensive operations.» , — noted in ISW.
They believe that a large-scale counter-offensive of Ukraine can begin only in 2025, after Kiev receives the promised weapons from Western allies and continues their assistance. This largely depends on the results of the US elections.
«Ukrainian forces will remain on the defensive for the next six months and will not be able to conduct a large-scale counter-offensive operation until 2025», — analysts write.
At this time, the Ukrainians must seize the initiative on the battlefield through targeted strikes on the logistics of the invaders, weakening their supply of weapons at the front.
We recall that it was previously reported that Ukraine is preparing for a very protracted war: an insider revealed that they are already accepting 17-18 year olds.
