Association of scientists «Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Ukraine» in a letter to President Vladimir Zelensky asks him to veto Law No. 4201 on the abolition of the time change in Ukraine from winter to summer.

Scientists give three arguments against the law:
— With the adoption of the bill, Ukraine will move away from the general practice of calculating time in the EU countries and other states supporting Kyiv in the war against Russia. Now Russia, Belarus and China have abandoned the use of summer time, so, according to Nakonechny, Ukraine has adopted an option “characteristic of a totalitarian world, and such a decision is difficult to explain from the point of view of any political logic.” >
-according to the law, at the end of June in Kyiv it will become dawn at three in the morning and dusk at 20 in the evening (now at four and at 21, respectively);
— light will be wasted – this follows from the previous argument; because of this, electricity costs for institutions and enterprises will increase in the evening hours in spring, summer and autumn. This will have a «particularly noticeable effect» in conditions of constant power outages.
The Academy recalled that the idea of changing clocks was first expressed in 1784 by the scientist and politician Benjamin Franklin.
«Daylight saving time on the territory of the UPR was first established from April 14 to September 14, 1919. This was done in order to better use daylight hours for human needs in the summer months», — says the statement.
Scientists also claim that at the moment there are no authoritative studies indicating a serious negative impact of changing time on a person, his physical and moral state.
