Health Minister of Gujarat state in India Rushikesh Patel announced an increase in the number of cases of Chandipura virus.

In particular, 50 cases of the Chandipur virus were registered throughout the state, 16 people died.
“Earlier, 14 cases of Chandipur virus were reported from Himmatpur, of which seven patients were hospitalized. Three Chandipur virus cases were reported from other states. 50 cases of Chandipur virus have been reported in the entire state, 16 people have lost their lives,” — noted Rushikesh Patel.
He also said that information about the virus has been conveyed to every locality and community health centers and the Chief Minister has held meetings with the Collectors, District Chief Medical Officer and medical colleges.
“In Gujarat, symptoms of the Chandipur virus were detected in children, which caused some fear. Seven cases were sent to Pune for laboratory testing, of which only one case of Chandipura virus was found. This may also be a consequence of encephalitis,” — added the Indian minister.
Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reviewed the situation in the state against the backdrop of the Chandipur virus and took stock of the measures taken to combat the epidemic. He directed government officials to conduct a campaign of spraying malathion powder in the districts to prevent the disease. He also asked officials to provide immediate intensive treatment to patients in case of any fever.
