Dementia: a sign in the eyes that will indicate a sharp decline in brain function has been named

Dementia is considered to be a relatively slow progression a disease for which there are currently no cures.

This information was reported by CNN, URA-Inform reports.

The main priority for scientists and doctors remains the prevention of the condition and its earliest possible diagnosis . According to new data, thinning of the retina of the eye can indicate the development of the disease.

According to scientists, this condition is associated with a “sharper” decline in cognitive functions. The study involved more than 400 people.

Subjective cognitive decline, or preclinical Alzheimer's disease, precedes mild cognitive impairment. Therefore, scientists are working to expand the range of biomarkers to diagnose the disease as early as possible.

In the new work, the researchers studied the parameters of the retinal layer thickness and their potential link to the future development of dementia. As a result, it was found that with thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer, a sharper decline in brain function and a higher level of cognitive impairment are observed.

The retina is considered an extension of the central nervous system, so it attracts the attention of scientists to study neurodegenerative disorders. Today day, the main biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease are beta-amyloid and tau protein, which are detected using a blood test.

Recall that it was previously reported that doctors named a unique product: strengthens bones, lowers blood pressure and rejuvenates.< /p>
