The British call the day of the military -of the Russian Navy “an annual demonstration of Russian naval power.” Intelligence officers from Great Britain noted that the main event of this holiday traditionally takes place in St. Petersburg along the Neva River to the Kronstadt naval base.
This year, the Kronstadt element of the parade, which was supposed to take place on July 28, was cancelled due to security concerns. The UK Ministry of Defence noted that this meant that the Russians could not guarantee adequate protection for their troops even on their own territory.
“This is not the first time events have been cancelled since Russia invaded Ukraine. However, this is the most high-profile event to be cancelled, and it highlights the growing trend that Russia is unable to guarantee the protection of its troops,” the UK Ministry of Defence noted.
