Why Danilko Doesn't Refuse to Speak Russian: The Singer Explained His Position

In a recent interview Andrey Danilko, widely known as “Verka Serduchka”, openly spoke about his attitude to the use of the Russian language.

This information was reported by the LTV publication, as reported by “URA-Inform”.

The artist made it clear that he does not perceive himself as a native speaker of the aggressor's language, seeing the situation in a different light.

“If it weren't for the Russian language, how could I communicate with Laima Vaikule? She doesn't speak Ukrainian, and I don't speak Latvian. I have my own attitude to this issue. When people tell me that I speak the language of the aggressor, I answer: “Or maybe the aggressor speaks Russian?” Do you understand the difference?”, Danilko noted.

According to Danilko, language is, first and foremost, a tool for communication. Most of his songs are written in Russian, and he sees no need to change that.

“Language is given for communication. The songs are written by me. Why should I break myself? I can be wrong in the eyes of others. They say that it triggers them. I understand that these are difficult times, people live very difficult lives. The psyche is disturbed, everyone is very irritated. And then, probably, don’t come to the concerts. Well, deliberately translating something that can’t be translated is not the same, it can’t be translated,” the artist explained.

Thus, Danilko emphasizes that language plays a key role in communication and self-expression, especially in difficult times. He calls for understanding and support, recognizing the complexity of the current situation and the impact of stress on society.

Recall that Budanov made a statement about the end of the war: “It is now that global issues are being resolved.”
