Could the Russians Launch a Major Offensive This Summer: ISW Assesses

Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War, Voiska, believe that the troops of the aggressor country are unlikely to be able to carry out a large-scale offensive on the front in Ukraine this summer.

ISW reported this information, as reported by URA-Inform.

«Russian forces likely lack the broader operational capability to conduct a separate, restored offensive operation in the Donetsk region or elsewhere on the front this summer,», the report says.

< p>According to analysts, Russian troops now have enough armored vehicles to conduct periodic company and large mechanized assaults along the entire front line in the short and medium term.

“However, it is unclear whether Russian forces have the necessary reserves of armored vehicles to conduct simultaneous large-scale offensive operations on multiple sectors of the front and to replace the growing losses of armored vehicles that may result from the intensification of mechanized operations,” the report says.< /p>

As experts note, the Russian invaders are inclined to conduct offensive operations “in impulses” in different parts of the front. Thus, according to analysts, throughout the summer, Russian troops periodically carried out mechanized assaults of platoons and companies in the directions of Liman, Chasov Yar and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region, and recently intensified assaults to the west and southwest of the city of Donetsk.

«Russian forces also redeployed units of the 90th Tank Division of the Central Military District (CMD) (41st Combined Arms Army (CAA)) from Avdiivka to the southwest of the city of Donetsk, which indicates that the Russian military command may assess that Russian forces are unlikely to quickly make a tactical transition in the Avdiivka area and are changing their priority in the Donetsk area,— the ISW report says.

In addition, experts suggest that Russian troops will likely deploy additional mechanized forces to this area in order to exploit weak spots in the Ukrainian front line and achieve some territorial advancement, albeit limited.

Recall that earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had another success on the front: experts found out where Ukraine defeated the Russian Federation again.
