Austrian Army Colonel Markus Reisner noted that a war of attrition continues in Ukraine.
About this information was reported by Ukrinform, reports URA-Inform.
He stressed that even if, at first glance, little is happening at the front, in reality the war is continuing and is determined by the expenditure of resources. According to him, the seventh phase of the war is currently underway.
“The current Russian summer offensive is an attempt to stretch the forces. This stage began in March and continues to this day. It actually began with the Russian offensive on the territory north of Kharkov,” he said. “One can recognize the operational intention of the Russian Federation to stretch the Ukrainian armed forces. In other words, an attempt was made to distract the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas.”
In addition, this phase is also characterized by an increase in the number of Russian troops involved, the colonel added:
“It is believed that about 650 thousand Russian soldiers have been involved. Of these, about 520 thousand are at the front. They are trying to move forward, first of all, in Donbas.”
Reisner believes that the decisive factor for this seventh phase is resources:
“At the strategic level, Russia's goal is to exhaust Ukraine through air strikes on critical infrastructure.”
