Prisoner swap between Russia and the US: ex-intelligence officer warns of possible consequences

Twitter LinkedIn

Former intelligence officer Sergei Zhirnov expressed concerns that after the recent prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States, Russian President Vladimir Putin could take an unexpected and dangerous action.

This information was reported by Dialog, as reported by URA-Inform.

Zhirnov believes that the exchange could have been used as a diversionary maneuver, which could be followed by serious steps. He recalled that a similar prisoner exchange took place during the Cold War, after which the world found itself on the brink of a nuclear conflict.

In his opinion, Putin may decide to do something as risky as trying to organize a new “Cubicle crisis 2.0.”

“I have no hope here. When the Russian Federation makes some gestures of so-called “goodwill”, then on the contrary, I get tense and suggest that everyone do the same. First, I want to remind you of something that I have quoted more than once, the Latin proverb “I fear the Greeks who bring me gifts”. When the Putin regime makes some concessions, then we should rather not rejoice, but rather get tense. We are momentarily happy about what is happening, but in reality we should think about what kind of meanness Putin is preparing”, shared his bad feelings, the KGB major.

Zhirnov also expressed his anxious feelings, explaining the reason for his concern.

Historically, there was a precedent in the Soviet Union. In February 1962, a similar exchange took place. An exchange took place on the bridge between West and East Germany. Someone then said that there was a “warming” during the Cold War, and eight months later there was the Cuban Missile Crisis, when America and the Soviet Union stood on the brink of nuclear war,” he noted.

Recall that earlier it was reported that the EU was developing a secret plan: how to save Ukraine if Trump returns to power.
