Military-political observer of the «Information Resistance» Alexander Kovalenko noted that the peak of this offensive is yet to come. According to him, the offensive in the Pokrovsk direction is part of a larger plan.
Kovalenko believes that it would be more correct to call this direction Toretsko-Pokrovsky, since the enemy’s main goal is not only to capture Pokrovsk, but also to completely occupation of the Toretsk agglomeration together with Toretsk itself.
As part of this plan, the enemy seeks to reach the left bank of the Volcha River, advance along highway 0511 to Pokrovsk and cut off the logistical artery 0504, which connects Pokrovsk with Konstantinovka and Chasovy Yar. Kovalenko emphasizes that the Toretsk agglomeration is a key element for a further offensive on Konstantinovka and in the direction of Kramatorsk. Chasov Yar also plays an important role in this context.
The situation in this direction is complicated by the fact that the enemy has concentrated two groups of troops there: the “South” group, responsible for the Donetsk region since the beginning of the invasion, and the “Center” group, which was previously responsible for the Liman direction, but since October 2023 its most combat-ready units have been transferred to the Pokrovsk area.
The Russians have concentrated two groups of troops here – several combined arms armies and even tank divisions to carry out these tasks. However, the most important battle will take place in 2024, precisely for Toretsk,” Alexander Kovalenko is sure.
