China is preparing to use the visit of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to Beijing to urge the US to refrain from interfering in conflicts in the South China Sea and to put forward tough demands on Taiwan.
This was reported by URA-Inform, citing the Chinese state television channel CCTV.
Chinese officials say Beijing has historical and legal grounds to assert its territorial sovereignty and rights in the South China Sea, stressing that the countries in the region surrounding the body of water have the confidence and wisdom to resolve their own issues without outside interference.
Chinese diplomats are concerned that actions by outside countries, especially the United States and its allies, could provoke conflict or exacerbate the current situation in the region. China has repeatedly accused the United States of supporting regional states in their efforts to protect their sovereignty from China's territorial claims, which Beijing sees as interference in its internal affairs and destabilization of the South China Sea.
Jake Sullivan is expected to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to China next week, which could be an important step toward arranging a future meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
It is worth noting that Biden predicted the end of the war in Ukraine.
