Ukraine seeks permission from Western allies to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to carry out a “demonstration attack” on Russian territory. Kyiv believes that such a move could force Moscow to begin talks on ending hostilities.
Western experts have come to this conclusion The Guardian, cited by URA-Inform.
According to the publication's source, Ukraine's plan is to demonstrate to Russia that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are capable of striking deep into Russian territory, thus threatening strategically important cities, such as Moscow and St. Petersburg. Kiev hopes that this will force the Kremlin to reassess its actions. However, this strategy is associated with high risks and has not yet received support from the United States.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at Independence Day, stressed that Kiev has no choice but to respond to Russia's full-scale invasion, which has been going on for more than two years. He stated that Ukraine is ready to respond to aggression symmetrically and with long-range weapons.
“Our enemy will know what Ukrainian retribution is. It will be worthy, symmetrical and long-range. Sooner or later, the Ukrainian response will reach any points of Russia, which poses a threat to the life of our state and people,” Zelensky said.
It is worth adding that Ukraine will deal a particularly powerful blow to the Russian Federation: Zelensky spoke about new developments.
