Adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak expressed the opinion that the Kremlin and Russian society perceive the war in Ukraine differently. According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to continue the war, since his power is possible only in conditions of conflict. At the same time, according to Podolyak, Russians realize that defeat in the war is their only chance to get rid of the Putin regime.

Podolyak noted that the end of the war will inevitably give rise to both internal and external claims against Putin, which could lead to his prosecution. In his opinion, the war is a kind of “protective shield” for the Russian dictator, allowing him to retain power and avoid responsibility.
On the other hand, Russian society understands that continuing the war will only mean strengthening the “dead-end regime,” which, as Podolyak stated, “will completely reset Russia to zero in a very short time,” leading the country to collapse.
Against the backdrop of these events, the Russian publication “Agency” reported a significant drop in Putin's rating, recorded by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM). Between August 12 and 18, the approval rating of the Russian leader's activities fell by 3.5 percentage points compared to the previous week. The level of trust in Putin also fell by 2.6 percentage points. Podolyak emphasized that given the state status of VTsIOM, the real figures could be even more disappointing for the Kremlin.
Against this background, it is appropriate to recall that Duda asked not to finish off the Russian army in the event of a Ukrainian victory.
