Today, On September 17, significant air pollution was recorded in Kyiv. Experts admit that exceeding the maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide in the capital is a cause for concern. Monitoring points show that the level of pollutants in the air is significantly higher than normal.

This is reported by “URA-Inform”, with reference to “Ukrhydrometcenter”.

The situation will become especially alarming on September 18-19, when the nitrogen dioxide content will exceed the permissible level by five times. This may have a negative impact on the health of Kyiv residents, especially people with chronic respiratory diseases.

“The average daily nitrogen dioxide content has already exceeded the norm, and the forecasts for the coming days are also disappointing,” forecasters report.

In addition, warm and dry weather contributes to the accumulation of other hazardous substances in the air, such as sulfur dioxide and formaldehyde, which further worsens the situation.

However, an improvement is expected from September 20 to 22. This period, northern winds and a drop in night and morning temperatures will help reduce the concentration of pollutants in the air.

Recall that the day before, on September 16, a forest fire began in the Kyiv region near Vyshgorod, which probably also affected deterioration of air quality.

We also note that Ukrenergo has asked the people to confirm whether there will be outages on September 18.
