Since the beginning of this week on the Ukrainian market is seeing a rise in onion prices, caused by heavy rains in the southern regions of the country.
URA-Inform reports on prices in Ukraine, citing EastFruit.
Unfavorable weather conditions have suspended harvest, which led to a reduction in supply on the market and, as a result, an increase in onion prices. Today, prices range from 10 to 15 UAH per kilogram, which is 16% more than at the end of last week.
The main reason for the increase in prices is increased demand from wholesale companies, as well as a decrease in supply due to prolonged rains. Farmers are forced to postpone mass harvesting, which further stimulates price growth. Experts also warn that the rains may negatively affect the quality of the products that remain in the field.
In addition, farmers prefer to store high-quality onions, offering only small batches for sale. Analysts note that, despite the temporary increase in prices, the average cost of onions today is almost the same as last year.
