Turkey intends to strengthen its diplomatic efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Türkiye has also openly expressed dissatisfaction with the UN's effectiveness in resolving the conflict.

As reported by URA-Inform, this was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his speech at the UN General Assembly, which took place on September 24 in New York.

Erdogan expressed concern that in the context of the escalating arms race, the possibilities of diplomacy are becoming increasingly limited. He emphasized that Turkey will continue to support any steps to end the conflict with an emphasis on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

“We are aiming for a peace based on justice and respect for international law,” the Turkish leader noted, speaking about his plans to promote the peace process.

In addition, the Turkish President confirmed that his country will strictly comply with the provisions of the Montreux Convention, which regulates the passage of warships through the Black Sea straits. This document is of great importance in the context of the geopolitical situation in the region.

Erdogan also did not ignore the issue of reforming international structures. He expressed the opinion that the UN needs reform, especially with regard to the Security Council. According to him, the current decision-making system in the UN is ineffective in the face of global challenges.

Turkey, as a country located between the West and the East, continues to play an important role in mediation processes in the international arena and seeks to strengthen its status as a diplomatic mediator in global conflicts.

We also recall that Borrell spoke about the challenge that awaits Ukraine in the war, and under what conditions peace is possible.
