China organized the first meeting of the group “Friends of Peace”, including countries of the Global South, to discuss the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
This information was reported by the TV channel “Politics of the Country”, which is quoted by “URA-Inform”.
This was reported by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was held within the framework of the UN General Assembly, with the participation of countries such as Algeria, Bolivia, Brazil, Egypt, Zambia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, China, Colombia, Mexico, Turkey and South Africa.
The participants adopted a joint communiqué expressing support for the Chinese-Brazilian plan to end hostilities on the front line and begin peace talks.
“We call on all parties to the conflict to achieve a comprehensive and lasting solution to the war in Ukraine through inclusive diplomatic and political means based on the UN Charter. We call on all parties to create the necessary conditions for this. We draw attention to the “six-point consensus” between China and Brazil on a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” the group said in a statement.
They also called for reducing tensions and preventing further escalation of the conflict. A clear position against attacks on civilian nuclear infrastructure and energy facilities was also expressed.
“Civilian infrastructure, including facilities using nuclear and other energy technologies for peaceful purposes, should not be subject to military action,” the statement says.
The “Friends” also called for “refusing to use or threaten to use weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.”
