A heart attack is often accompanied by acute chest pain, which is why people usually seek medical help right away.

This information was reported by Useti, quoted by URA-Inform.

However, in some cases this classic symptom is absent, and then we are talking about the so-called “silent” heart attack. As the cardiologist and doctor of medical sciences noted, such heart attacks most often occur in people with type 2 diabetes. With this disease, nerve endings are damaged, which is why a person may not feel pain even when part of the heart muscle dies.

«There is a so-called silent heart attack or painless heart attack. This is when a heart attack occurs, that is, necrosis of heart tissue, and the person feels almost normal, there is no pain. His condition is critical and he can die at any moment, but his health is quite satisfactory,» the doctor said.

Symptoms of a «silent» heart attack that are easy to miss:

1. Fear of death — a sudden feeling that life can end at any moment. This is due to the release of substances that occur during the death of myocardial cells, which affect the nervous system.

2. Unexplained weakness — sudden and unusual fatigue not caused by physical exertion.

3. Cold clammy sweat — appears for no apparent reason.

4. Discomfort in unusual places — unpleasant sensations in the jaw, neck, left arm or abdomen.

The doctor emphasizes that when these symptoms appear, it is important not to hesitate — the heart can fail at any moment. To avoid serious consequences, treatment must be started within the first three hours.

“The ideal window from the onset of symptoms to receiving surgical treatment is three hours, the so-called three golden hours. If the patient gets to a surgeon during this period, then up to 80% of the mass of the dying myocardium of the left ventricle can be saved,” the cardiologist explained.
