Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Nicolas Bidault said his country supports the peace initiative by China and Brazil to end the war in Ukraine, even though it makes no reference to the UN Charter or mentions support for Ukraine's territorial integrity.

According to Bidault, Switzerland decided to support the Sino-Brazilian “peace initiative” because it provides for a ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, and is an alternative to “war talk”. Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which were voiced at the UN.

At the same time, the representative of the Swiss Foreign Ministry emphasized that any peace initiatives to end the war in Ukraine should refer to the UN Charter, noting that the same opinion was expressed by the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Yi during his speech at the UN Security Council.

The publication notes that Switzerland was the only Western country that was invited the day before, on September 27, to a discussion of the peace initiative organized by China and Brazil on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The publication notes that one of the reasons why the United States and Europe did not support the Chinese-Brazilian initiative was the lack of a reference to the UN Charter in the document, which they regarded as support for the Kremlin's strategy.

Bidault also noted that Switzerland is capable of bringing the South and the North to dialogue, because it supports a path to peace based on specific proposals.

It also became known that China has already held the first meeting of the “Friends of Peace”: A joint communiqué was adopted.
