Why the West is in no hurry to help Ukraine win: expert explains an important point

Twitter LinkedIn

Military expert Petr Chernik believes that Western leaders carefully weigh their actions, taking into account the costs and consequences of each step.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Dialog.

In his opinion, in order to end the war in Ukraine, the West only needs to lower oil prices, but at the moment they do not see the need for this. Chernik noted that this is a key aspect of the West's current position and explained an important point:

“Is there a methodology for pressure? There is. They have mechanisms. They know how to put pressure on a particular country through economic processes, but this is not instantaneous, and the main thing is to understand that first the loss scenarios are calculated and all this is tied into cruel geopolitics, and only then the steps begin. So far, the Americans do not believe that interrupting large links and certain flows is an absolute threat to them.

The expert also gave an example from world history that helps to better understand the reasons for the current approach of Western countries to the war in Ukraine:

«Reagan and Thatcher in 1980 came to the conclusion, having calculated all the risks, that it was necessary to bring down the monster, the time had come for this, and they brought down the price of oil, but they negotiated with the Saudis for five years until they agreed, and there were many specific situations, both steps forward and rollbacks, until we reached this point. This is our harsh reality».

Zelensky also told when the US will decide on a plan for Ukraine's victory: the date has been named.
