Bashkortostan turned out to be in first place among Russian regions in terms of the number of losses in the war against Ukraine, according to the latest data.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian project «I Want to Live» .
Neighboring Tatarstan has also suffered significant losses, ranking fourth in the number of officially recognized fatalities and second in the number of liquidated volunteers. Journalists from the Tatar-Bashkir service of Radio Liberty published these statistics based on open data.
As of September 29, 2024, data on almost 20,000 dead natives of the Volga region who participated in the so-called “special military operation” have been recorded. In Bashkortostan, at least 3,026 fatalities have been officially confirmed, while in Tatarstan – 2,704.
«These are only the deaths that have been verified – this information has been acknowledged in one way or another by the Russian side, relatives of the deceased, or educational institutions and other public organizations,» the journalists emphasized.
In addition, Bashkortostan is leading in the number of deceased volunteers, with at least 1,016 of them. For comparison, there are significantly fewer deceased contract soldiers from Moscow – only 151 people.
Mediazona editor Dmitry Treshchanin, who is collecting information about the deceased Russians, noted that «there is no rational explanation» such a disproportion does not exist.
«A crazy number of obituaries. At some point you realize that we are mainly talking about Bashkortostan, and not cities, but remote villages. At some point you realize that you only have Marats and Marsels,» he noted.
The results of the survey also showed how the attitude of Russians towards the war in Ukraine has changed.
