Twitter LinkedIn

In the Ministry of Finance noted that in the first half of this year, there were 3.4 counterfeits per million real hryvnias, which is 62% more than last year.

URA-Inform reports this with reference to the Ministry of Finance.< /p>

Among the hryvnia banknotes from January to June 2024, 90% of the counterfeits were of two denominations of old issues. We are talking about the 500 hryvnia banknote (issued in 2006) and the 200 hryvnia banknote (issued in 2007). However, the National Bank noted that the new national currency is better protected.

How to recognize a counterfeit banknote

— you need to place the banknote against a light source. This way you can check for watermarks. This is an image of a portrait that repeats the portrait printed on the front side of the banknote, as well as an image of the digital designation of the denomination or the graphic symbol of the hryvnia;

— the presence of a through element. This is an image of the digital designation of the denomination, made on the front and back sides. It acquires a holistic appearance without breaks and displacements when examining the banknote against a light source;

— the banknote has a security tape completely immersed in the thickness of the paper, on which, using a magnifying glass, you can see the image of the denomination, the inscription GRN and the image of the trident in a straight and inverted form. To do this, place the banknote against a light source;

— on genuine banknotes, the images change color when viewed from different angles, and when the angle of inclination of the banknote changes, the direction of movement of the background image of the tape changes;

— you can also check the relief of individual images on the front side of the banknote, which is ensured by a special type of printing.

— latent image of the digital denomination, visible when examining the banknote at eye level against the light at an acute angle (dark on a light background when examining the banknote from the long side, light on a dark background – from the short side).

The National Bank noted that knowledge of the security features of hryvnia banknotes and their careful checking during payments minimizes the risks of receiving counterfeits.
