Scientists from the University of Maryland University, analyzed data from 48 genetic studies covering 17,000 patients with stroke and about 600,000 people without the disease.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Radiotrek.

According to the results of the study, scientists found a 16% increased risk of stroke in people with blood type 2 under the age of 60. The age of the study participants ranged from 18 to 59 years.

“Recent studies have shown that the likelihood of stroke in people with the second blood type is 16% higher than in people with other blood types. On the contrary, in people with the first blood group, the risk was 12% lower,” the report says.

At the same time, in old age, in people with the second blood group, the risk of stroke is insignificant, which indicates other mechanisms of disease development at a young age. The exact reasons for the increased risk of stroke remain unclear.

Researchers suggest that this may be due to the characteristics of blood clotting, the activity of platelets or proteins involved in the process of thrombus formation.
