Prime Minister Slovak Republic Robert Fico expressed confidence in the imminent end of the war in Ukraine and the expectation of progress towards resolving the conflict.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Slovak publication Teraz.

< p>It is noted that at a meeting of the National Council Committee on European Affairs before his trip to the European Council in Brussels, he made a number of statements that attracted attention both inside and outside the country. Fico said that the end of the war could happen much faster than expected.

“The probability of ending the war in Ukraine in a short time is very high,” he noted, adding that he hoped for rapid progress on this issue.

He stressed that the upcoming meeting in Brussels, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will present his position, could be a turning point. However, Fico expressed skepticism about a possible invitation to Ukraine to NATO and warned about the consequences of such a step.

“Inviting Ukraine to NATO will not be free,” the Prime Minister added. He warned that the decision could escalate the conflict and even trigger a third world war.

While Fico reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity, he expressed doubt that a fair peace could be achieved under the current circumstances.

“We will support any peace plan that can lead to a settlement of the conflict,” Fico said, stressing that dialogue and negotiations should be the basis for finding solutions.

One of the key topics, according to the Prime Minister, will be the discussion of peace initiatives at the upcoming talks in China. At the same time, he noted that Slovakia will try to maintain balanced relations with Russia and avoid one-sided decisions.

Fico emphasized that, in his opinion, the return of Crimea and other territories under the control of Ukraine is not possible.

A report also appeared about why the United States does not want to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine.
