In an interview with Patrick Bet-David, former US President Donald Trump said that President Volodymyr Zelensky is responsible for starting the war between Russia and Ukraine.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Politico.
“He should not have allowed this war to start. The war is lost,” Trump emphasized, blaming Zelensky and hinting that Kyiv could have prevented the escalation.
Trump also repeated his thesis that the war between Russia and Ukraine would not have started if he had remained in power. According to him, President Joe Biden “provoked this conflict” with his foreign policy, while under Trump's presidency “it would not have happened.”
This rhetorical device serves both as a criticism of opponents and as a self-affirmation ahead of the 2024 presidential race.
In addition, Politico notes that Trump has increasingly shown positive signals towards Vladimir Putin, which raises questions about his possible approach to resolving the war if he returns to power.
During a recent debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump again voiced the idea of the need to end the conflict. However, he twice avoided a direct answer to the question of whether he supports a Ukrainian victory in this war. This unclear position increases concerns among experts and US allies that Trump's policies could weaken transatlantic support for Kyiv.
A report also emerged on why the US is reluctant to shoot down Russian missiles in the skies over Ukraine.
