The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is working on the reform of school education.
This was reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to the Ministry of Education and Science.
The press service of the Department reported that the senior school should become “Profile” already in 2027.
What does the reform provide for
The reform of the senior school provides that after the ninth grade, students will be able to choose one of two directions – academic or vocational.
Academic directionwill allow students to study in lyceums in a chosen profile, for example, STEM or linguistics and literature. Students will be able to independently choose subjects for in-depth study, as well as subjects not related to the profile. For example, a student in the biochemistry profile will be able to choose courses related to literature, art and languages. Academic lyceums will be large educational institutions, thanks to which it will be possible to form several groups of students, which means that they will have the opportunity to offer various profiles and subjects to choose from.
The professional direction involves admission to a professional college or an institution of professional pre-higher education, where students will be able to master a profession and choose subjects related to it. And after completing their studies, students will be able to choose their further path – either enter the labor market or continue their education at the ZVO.
«The high school reform changes the value approach to education. Ninth-graders will independently choose how they want to study in high school. This is embedded in the philosophy of the entire reform, and this is what we see that the children themselves want. We give them freedom. This is one of the important, fundamental values of a person,»- explained the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi.
