Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh has been recognized as the best track and field athlete of 2024 in Europe. It is noted that the award and title of Mahuchikh were awarded during the Golden Tracks award ceremony in Skopje. Moreover, Yaroslava Mahuchikh became the only Ukrainian to win this award.
As noted in the federation, this year Mahuchikh became the Olympic champion and European champion, won silver at the World Indoor Championships, the third consecutive Diamond League final and broke the world record in high jump.
The athlete herself emphasized that she dedicated this award to all Ukrainians.
“A world record and Olympic gold are special awards. But for me, as for every Ukrainian man or woman, every victory is important because it is an opportunity to show that we are fighting. And we will continue to do so on all fields. In 2019, I won the “Rising Star” nomination and this motivated me to work further. Finally, I also have the award for the best athlete of the year in Europe. It is for all Ukrainians,” — said Yaroslava Mahuchikh during the award ceremony.
At the same time, the federation added that over the past 10 years, only one Ukrainian has won the title of best track and field athlete of the year in Europe – Bohdan Bondarenko (2013).
