In an interview with leading media outlets in Northern Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made important statements that highlight the complexity of diplomatic maneuvers around the upcoming peace summit.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

The head of state noted that Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader, refuses to participate in peace initiatives because he does not have a clear plan of action for the period after the end of the war. Zelensky also stressed that before the negotiations, Ukraine needs to be strengthened in order to defend its interests and prepare the ground for sustainable peace.

Zelensky confirmed Kiev's readiness to include Russia in the negotiation process at the second peace summit, which is planned to be held in the near future. However, he noted that Russia's participation is possible only if there is a clear and realistic peace plan aimed at ending hostilities.

“We are ready for Russia to take part in the second peace summit, but this requires a plan. A plan that will allow us to move towards peace,” Zelensky emphasized.

In addition, Ukraine is seeking to involve countries of the Global South, such as Brazil and China, in the negotiations. According to the president, Kyiv is ready to adapt its proposals if other states propose points that are consistent with the principles of the UN Charter and aimed at ending the conflict.

“We are open to any proposals if they help stop the hostilities,” Zelensky said.

Ukraine intends to present its updated peace plan in November. Zelensky added that Kyiv is ready to include proposals from international partners if they prove constructive. In particular, he stressed the possibility of developing a joint plan with the participation of the Global South.

“If the countries of the Global South want to invite Putin, let them. But he does not want to, because he does not know what to do after the war,” Zelensky noted, pointing to Russia's lack of a clear strategy.
