Did Hungary agree to the clause on Ukraine's membership in NATO in the agreement between the countries: Budapest's response

Negotiations between Hungary and Ukraine on a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the countries are ongoing.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Magyar Nemzet.

However, the representative of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mate Paczolai, stated that there is no clause on Ukrainian membership in NATO. Instead, he emphasized that an important part of the comprehensive cooperation agreement with Ukraine should be “restoring the rights of the Hungarian minority.”

“At the same time, during the negotiations, we made it clear to the Ukrainian side that Ukraine's intention to join NATO cannot be part of this agreement,” Pacholay emphasized.

The representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that the position of the Hungarian government regarding Ukraine's accession to NATO has not changed. Budapest believes that this would allegedly lead to the start of World War III.

It is worth noting that this statement is somewhat different from the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that security issues, in particular, Ukraine's accession to NATO, would be part of such a document.

According to him, Kyiv is proposing that Budapest “simply not block” Ukrainian membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. However, the Hungarian side has made statements about its complete rejection of Ukraine's possible accession to NATO.

Recall that it was previously reported that Ukraine would join NATO: Zelensky made an important clarification.
