On the beaches nearby Mysterious black balls with a pungent odor have been discovered in Sydney, Australia.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Telegraf.

It is reported that they were initially mistaken for the remains of an oil spill, However, the study found that these were so-called “fetbergs” – conglomerates of man-made waste commonly found in sewer systems.

Analysis confirmed that they were not only made up of feces, but also contained recreational drugs , industrial chemicals, cooking oil and diesel fuel.

Despite the fact that the composition is already known, it was not possible to understand where they came from. Experts from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) said that while the composition was consistent with human-made waste, it was not known whether it came from local sewage systems, was dumped from boats or was the result of stormwater runoff.

Authorities have closed beaches where these balls were found and cleanup began, continuing to investigate the source of the contamination.
